Cricket News: IND vs SL Twitter Reactions – Siraj, Shami, Bumrah bowl Sri Lanka out for 55 | Reactions to India’s massive 302-run win over Sri Lanka at Mumbai

India have once again made a mockery of Sri Lanka, bowling them out for under 100 for the third time in the past four meetings. Mohammed Siraj, just as he did in the recent Asia Cup Final, destroyed the Sri Lankan top order to have figures of 3/0 off 1.5 overs at one stage, after Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the in-form Pathum Nissanka LBW first ball off a delivery that is almost impossible to play.

But, the beauty of the Indian attack is that there is no breathing room. After the early Siraj and Bumrah onslaught, in came Mohammed Shami. The man of the match went on a rampage, dismissing Charith Asalanka and Dushan Hemantha in his first over to reduce Sri Lanka to a scarcely believable 14/6 after ten overs. From there, he dismissed Dushmantha Chameera, Angelo Mathews and Kasun Rajitha to finish with 5/18 and become India’s all-time highest wicket-taker in ODI World Cups.

It was truly an exhibition from India’s pace-bowling brigade. On a surface offering movement and a touch of inconsistent pace, the fast bowlers did not let up, with the Sri Lankans simply having no answers as a wicket looked likely each and every delivery. At one stage, the lowest ever ODI score of 35 was under threat as the Lions fell to the depths of 29/8, but the efforts of Kasun Rajitha (14) and Maheesh Theekshana (12*) gave Sri Lanka their only consolation on a wretched day.

Key stats from the rout:

  • Mohammed Shami became India’s leading wicket-taker in World Cups with 45. He has achieved the feat in just 14 innings.
  • Sri Lanka’s top five contributed just two runs. This is the lowest of any team in ODI history.
  • The 302-run win is India’s second-biggest ever in ODIs. The biggest ever is 317, also by India against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
  • India have bowled Sri Lanka out for 73, 50 and 55 in three of their past four ODIs. The Lions scored 172 on the other occasion.

We must also not forget India’s solid batting performance, where they struck an imposing 357/8 on a surface that was somewhat tricky for batting. Shubman Gill (92), Virat Kohli (88) and Shreyas Iyer (82) all struck half-centuries. Here are some reactions India’s massive victory; their seventh-straight in a perfect World Cup campaign so far.

“Don’t worry about tomorrow. Cherish the Team India that you have today. You may never see such domination again,” tweeted Sportskeeda’s Anuj Nitin Prabhu.

“For decades if batters in India were the headline act fast bowlers were the accompaniment tracks more often than not. What Bumrah, Shami and Siraj have done is turned fast bowling into the special attraction band, one that seems to churn out platinum albums for fun,” tweeted Cricbuzz’s Bharat Sundaresan.

Genuinely no exaggeration to say Sri Lanka could have been six down in two overs. Insane bowling

— Ben Jones (@benjonescricket) November 2, 2023

If India had declared after 8 overs of their innings, we’d have an absolute thriller here

— Ben Jones (@benjonescricket) November 2, 2023

Of course, SL just have to see off this opening spell. Only Shami to come in at first change… #INDvSL #CWC23

Dimuth – Should never be in ODI team ever again.
Mathews – Great career. But shouldn’t be part of ODIs after the WC.
KJP – Cheers for memories.

Mendis, Nissanka, Asalanka, Sadeera, Hasaranga, Madushanka, Wellalage – Build the team around these guys.#CWC2023

Shami now has 45 wickets in WCs, which is the highest for India. And he has 45 wickets in 14 games at an avg of 12.91 and at a SR of 15.7. He has now equalled Starc for most 5-fers in WCs (3).

These numbers are the bowling equivalent of Bradman’s Test avg of 99.94.

India’s dominant display in the ICC Cricket World Cup ensured their qualification for the semi-finals after a resounding victory over Sri Lanka. Congratulations to all the Indian cricket fans! 🇮🇳✌️

When you can call Shami, off the bench, after four matches; when Siraj can do this; when your spearhead is Bumrah, arguably India’s best ever new-ball ODI pacer; when you have Kuldeep + Jadeja; when you have Ashwin on the bench, you have India’s best CWC attack ever. #INDvsSL

Today’s #INDvsSL match reminds me of the Coca Cola Champions Trophy final in Sharjah, 2000 where SL, riding on Jayasuriya’s mammoth 189, scored a massive 299 (considered unchasable those days) and bundled out India for just 54.

Today, India reciprocated the same way. SL is…

— THE SKIN DOCTOR (@theskindoctor13) November 2, 2023

Man! It IS India’s fault indeed that we don’t have close games in this WC!

This bowling attack just isn’t allowing ANYONE anywhere near them.

Relentless. Ruthless. Merciless.

Everyone needs to check on their Sri Lankan friends, they will not be ok#INDvsSL
