Team India (IND) took on Zimbabwe (ZIM) in the fifth T20I at the Harare Sports Club in Harare, on (Sunday) July 14. Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bowl first. India were dealt with a top-order collapse as the last match heroes, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill were back in the hut scoring 12 and 13 respectively. Abhishek Sharma followed suit as the Rajasthan Royals duo, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag steadied the ship with a 62-run partnership for the fourth wickets before walking back scoring 58 and 22 respectively.
Shivam Dube played a quickfire cameo coming down the order and propelled India to a score above the 150 runs mark. He departed after fetching 26 off 12 and Rinku Singh managed to remain unbeaten on 11 off 9. For Zimbabwe, Blessing Muzarbani picked two wickets as Sikandara Raza, Richard Ngarava and Brandon Mavuta picked one wicket apiece.
Zimbabwe’s another batting collapse costs game
While chasing, the hosts fumbled in the beginning losing Wessley Madhevere for a duck and power hitter, Brian Bennett for 10 runs. Tadiwanashe Marumani and Dion Myers played sensibly sharing 44 runs between them and when the due trudged back scoring 27 and 34 respectively, the downfall started. The middle and lower order collapsed within a span of nine runs. Faraz Akram with his 27 off 13 showed some retaliation. They were bundled for 125 and India won the game by 42 runs.
“I thought Blessing bowled well the whole series. Batting-wise, we are still below-par, but we are starting to rectify the problems at the top. You are going to have bad games here and there. The grey area for me will remain our attitude in the field, we are still making a lot of mistakes, that’s controllable, we are going to keep working hard and hopefully keep getting better,” said Raza after the game.
