One of the biggest shockers was a main event interim title fight between lightweight contenders Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje set to go down at UFC 324 on Jan. 24 in Las Vegas, Nevada. An interim title fight makes sense considering current UFC lightweight champion, Ilia Topuria, has sidelined himself to deal with some real personal issues, but nobody thought a meeting between “Baddy” and “Highlight” would be the end result.
As expected, Pimblett was excited to learn that he’ll be fighting for UFC gold after all. It may not be a grudge match with Topuria for the undisputed 155-pound crown, but at least the streaking Scouser will have another chance to grow his already soaring UFC stock. The English star took to social media on Friday to celebrate the news and also throw some shade at Arman Tsarukyan, who many thought would get the next UFC lightweight title shot.
“You like apples?” Pimblett asked Tsarukyan.
Tsarukyan, who is coming off a masterful beatdown over Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar earlier this month (highlights HERE), also hit the keyboard on Thanksgiving, but he went on to ask for an explanation for the Pimblett vs. Gaethje booking. After all, Tsarukyan is ranked No. 1 in the UFC’s lightweight division and is riding a five-fight win streak, including wins over Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush, and the aforementioned “Hangman.”
Check out Tsarukyan’s reaction below and let us know your final thoughts on all of this!
“Make it make sense,” wrote Tsarukyan.
