Liverpool can breathe a sigh of relief over summer transfer target Marc Guehi.
The Reds are big admirers of Crystal Palace’s dominant central defender and are keen to add him to their ranks before the end of the window.
Palace chairman Steve Parish recently acknowledged that Guehi was likely to move on should serious interest be presented to the Eagles and Liverpool are believed to have made theirs officially known.
The England international, 25, is coming to the end of his contract after entering his final year at Selhurst Park and Reds boss Arne Slots is light on centre-back options right now.
Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate have been working together as a pair with Joe Gomez sidelined with an Achilles issue.
Jarell Quansah was sold earlier in the window to Bayer Leverkusen for close to £35million and the Reds have been seeking reinforcements since.
Marc Guehi only wants Liverpool transfer this summer
Guehi has played 159 times for the Eagles since joining from Chelsea in 2021 but now he is ready to move to Anfield if transfer king Fabrizio Romano is to be believed.
The Italian journalist has claimed that Guehi is hoping to move to Liverpool as they are his favoured club.
Reports had emerged suggesting Manchester City and Newcastle United were interested in Guehi but the £50m asking price had put them off making their move.
And Romano tweeted earlier today clarifying the situation.
He wrote: “Despite reports on Man City and more clubs, Marc Guehi situation has not changed: Liverpool is his favorite destination.
“Guehi wants #LFC, talks still ongoing for deal to happen before end of the window.
“If not possible with Palace, Liverpool will be on it for 2026.”
Other clubs interested in Crystal Palace star Guehi
Palace know a sale will have to be sanctioned soon to avoid losing their star defender for nothing.
Speaking after Palace’s Community Shield win over Liverpool on Sunday, Parish conceded that a departure this summer is possible as they do not want to lose him on a free next year.
“Yes, of course, for players of that calibre to leave on a free, it is a problem for a football club,” Parish said. “There is no doubt about it, unfortunately. Joachim [Andersen] went [last summer to Fulham], and we couldn’t afford to lose both of them.
“We then had another bid in January, but that was a different situation. We’ll just have to see what happens. It needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”
The asking price could potentially come down before the end of the window.
