Match No. 38 of IPL 2024 saw Mumbai Indians try to settle the scores against Rajasthan Royals while visiting the latter in Jaipur after having lost to the side at the Wankhede Stadium earlier this season.
MI opted to bat first and were dealt a huge blow as Trent Boult (2 for 32) removed Rohit Sharma in the first over, but the major damage to MI’s innings early was done by Sandeep Sharma (5 for 18) who took two more wickets in the powerplay and left MI reeling at 45/3 at the end of it.
This then became 52/4 in the eighth over when Yuzvendra Chahal held on to a return catch from Mohammad Nabi. At this point, Nehal Wadhera (49 off 24) joined Tilak Varma (65 off 45), and the two put up 99 in just 52 deliveries before Trent Boult returned to break the partnership. RR then bowled very well at the death, especially Sandeep Sharma who returned to take three wickets and MI could only manage 179/9.
RR’s reply started cautiously, but once Yashasvi Jaiswal (104* off 60), picked up the tempo, nothing stopped him and RR from dashing away to a victory. RR’s cause though, was helped significantly by a very poor fielding display from MI. In fact, RR won this match by a staggering 9 wickets.
