Second-placed MI Emirates (MIE) will take on the third-placed Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) at the halfway point of ILT20 2025. The match also represents an opportunity for ADKR to displace MIE from second place.
Both teams’ last match was against each other where MI Emirates managed to clinch victory. MIE had a slow start which was mitigated by their skipper Nicholas Pooran’s quick-fire 49 to set a platform for the final overs. Romario Shepherd then made an unbeaten 38 from just 13 balls, including taking apart Ali Khan for 26 runs in the last over. Shepherd’s burst took MIE to 186.
The Knight Riders practically never recovered from that final push. They lost early and regular wickets to be tottering at 88/6 before Andre Russell hit some boundaries towards the end to deal the inevitable. Shepherd played a part with the ball as well, striking twice in the sixth over to rush the top-order collapse.
Speaking of the points table, while Emirates stand at the second place on the IlT20 2025 Points Table with three wins in five of their games so far, the Knight Riders have managed only a couple of wins in as many games as the Emirates. A comprehensive win may provide them the chance to come at the second position, whereas, despite a win, they Emirates won’t be able to better their standings, as it would not breach them past Desert Vipers, who have ten points from five games.
