Indian men’s cricket team Head Coach Rahul Dravid has thrown a googly at millions of cricket fans in the country as he said that he’s yet to sign his contract extension by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on Thursday, November 30. Notably, the BCCI announced the contract extensions for the head coach and the support staff on Wednesday, November 29 where President Roger Binny expressed elation at Dravid’s acceptance of the offer to remain head coach of the side.
However, a day later, Dravid was in Delhi to attend a meeting with the BCCI chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and Secretary Jay Shah to pick India’s squads for all three formats for the upcoming tour of South Africa. While having a brief chat with the media after the meeting, Dravid was asked about his contract extension and how long he intends to be team India’s coach. However, the 50-year-old made the shocking revelation that he’s yet to sign any official document for his extension.

“Nothing’s out officially. I haven’t signed anything as yet so once I get the papers, we will discuss it. And maybe then you can…” Dravid was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Dravid to remain head coach till T20 World Cup 2024: Reports
According to reports, Dravid is expected to remain head coach of India till the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA. The Indore-born cricketer has been away from the team in the ongoing T20I series against Australia where VVS Laxman is serving the role of a stand-in Head coach. Dravid will join the squad in the upcoming tour to South Africa beginning from December 10.

Notably, he was appointed as India’s head coach on a two-year contract in 2021 after the T20 World Cup 2021 and his tenure ended at the end of the ODI World Cup 2023. However, impressed with the team’s performance under Dravid’s reign, BCCI offered him a contract extension.
