Nigma Galaxy has been the talk of the Dota 2 community since it began its off-season moves, in preparation for the 2024 season. On 20th December Yuma “Yuma” Langlet, Kasra “Mikey” Mesbah, and Ivan “MinD_ContRoL” Ivanov were released from Nigma Galaxy to find new opportunities with other teams. Additionally, Maroun “GH” Merhej was moved to the inactive roster following his decision to take a break and spend more time with his friends and family during the 2024 competitive season.
Prominent Dota 2 figure Janne “Gorgc” Stefanovski said he was not surprised to see the sudden release of players by Nigma Galaxy. He noted that it had been a few years since the team had found success in the professional Dota 2 landscape, hinting that the release of players is a much needed change for the organization.
Nigma Galaxy’s Much Needed Roster Change
Gorgc, on a recent livestream, remarked that it was not surprising for Nigma Galaxy to suddenly mass-release its players. Gorgc attributed this mass release to a much-needed roster change for the team. “I guess it isn’t so surprising they want to make a roster change ’cause they haven’t had a good result in like three or four years,” Gorgc remarked.
To start the roster overhaul, on 21st December, Nigma Galaxy officially announced the return of Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan as the team’s new mid laner. As of now, only Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi and SumaiL remain on the active roster of Nigma Galaxy. Meanwhile, Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi has been sitting on the inactive roster since last December due to health issues.
Gorgc also pondered over the potential replacements for the players in Nigma Galaxy. He pointed out that the organization needs position 1, position 2, and position 3 players to build its core for the next year. However, he ruled out Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen joining as the replacement for MinD_ContRoL as the new offlaner.
Gorgc said, “Topson was practicing Pos 3. But I doubt that it’ll be Topson. I don’t know why. I don’t think it’s going to be him.”
Nigma Galaxy has not found success in the professional Dota 2 landscape for almost four years. The team won its last tournament in 2022 and failed to qualify for The International 2023 and Riyadh Masters 2023. It was last seen playing at the BetBoom Dacha 2023 where it finished in the last place.
Since BetBoom Dacha 2023, Nigma Galaxy has not even tried for any qualifiers or tournaments. As of now, it has made only one announcement regarding its 2024 team. As of yet, there ha snot been any more announcements potential replacements for the empty spots left by the departure of its core players.
