Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir is reportedly going to be questioned by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) over the team’s recent performance against New Zealand at home. It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma’s men were recently whitewashed against the visitors in their own backyard, losing three Tests in Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai.
The same has brought Gambhir on the radar. Interestingly, the BCCI agreed with all of Gambhir’s demands after he assumed the charge, with the board roping in the entire support staff, including Abhishek Nayar, Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate, as per his liking. Amidst various questions, India’s demand of producing a turner for the Mumbai Test after India lost in Bengaluru and Pune, is also being questioned.
“The decision to go back to rank turners caught a few people in the board by surprise. The new support staff under Gautam Gambhir will be asked about their vision for taking the team forward,” a source in the know told the Times of India.

“The BCCI has agreed to every demand of Gambhir so far. He has been given a support staff of his choice despite BCCI’s policy of promoting coaches they have groomed through NCA’s programme. He has also been allowed to attend the selection meeting to pick the team for the Australia tour. The board may have to revisit its decisions and ask Gambhir for a roadmap,” he added.
It has also been reported that the review meeting will be attended by India skipper Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. With the much anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on the horizon, the Indian team’s performance will be under the radar, and with the recent whitewash against New Zealand, team India would be under a lot of pressure to improve in the Australia tour.
