The legendary Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata is all set to undergo renovations as the board hopes to put in their bid to host the final of the T20 World Cup in 2026. It is worth noting that the tournament will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka between February and March 2026.
It is interesting to note that, as per reports, the renovations are all set to begin after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. One of the largest cricket stadiums in the world, the stadium will reportedly be renovated with improved facilities.
The stadium also hosted five games at the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023, which also included India’s marquee clash against South Africa, where Virat Kohli levelled the legendary record of 49 ODI centuries held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Furthermore, the iconic stadium will once again be home to the two-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders. The side failed to go all the way in the 16th edition of the marquee tournament, as they missed out on the knockout stages of the competition.
Kolkata finished in seventh place in the standings in the IPL 2023, playing 14 games in the competition and winning six games. The two-time champions lost their remaining eight games and finished in seventh place with 12 points in 14 games.
The side was led by Nitish Rana and gave rise to many stars like Rinku Singh. As the 17th edition of the tournament approaches, it could be interesting to see how Kolkata fared and if they were able to win their third IPL.
The side retained the likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine and had the support of former cricketer Gautam Gambhir as the side’s mentor for the upcoming season. With their former skipper in the mix, Kolkata’s campaign could receive a big boost.
