Spring has sprung and summer is right around the corner, but a number of key UFC fights that were expected to be announced for the summer slate of events are nowhere to be seen.
UFC 317, which is two months away, still just has a flyweight title fight between Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Kara-France. That’s big, but not International Fight Week big.
If you were hoping UFC CEO Dana White would shed some light on the current situation after TKO’s busy week in Kansas City, you’ll be disappointed to hear he did not.
“I just announced some fights yesterday,” he said when asked about the UFC 317 main event. “And that wasn’t one of them.”
He did discuss a middleweight title bout between Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev that some thought might fall in Vegas for the end of June.
reluctant lightweight champion Islam Makhachev?
“We’ll see,” White answered. “We’ll see how it plays out.”
The final big fight everyone’s waiting to hear about is heavyweight champ Jon Jones vs. interim champ Tom Aspinall.
“Everything you hear is bullshit until we say it,” White said of rumors surrounding that superfight. “I’ve said it many times that that’s that’s the fight that we wanna make this year … Still super confident.”
