Bukayo Saka’s spectacular goal against Nottingham Forest on the first weekend of the season has been nominated for the Premier League’s Goal of the Month for August.
William Saliba got the ball back as Forest sought to play their way out of danger after clearing a corner in what proved to be the winning goal. The Frenchman exchanged passes with Thomas Partey before laying the ball off to our striker, who took a touch to nudge the ball into a yard of space and keep Orel Mangala at bay.
Then, from the edge of the area, Bukayo twisted his left foot around the ball and released a ferocious shot that sailed into the top corner, over the extended fingertips of former teammate Matt Turner, to kick off his season with a bang.
The fantastic goal by the England international is one of eight nominated for the prize. Other contenders are West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen’s drive against Bournemouth, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz’s acrobatic attempt against the Cherries, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak’s beautiful dink against Aston Villa, and Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer’s thumper against Forest.
Individual performances by Kaoru Mitoma during Brighton’s win at Wolves, Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling slaloming past Luton Town’s defense, and Brentford’s Kevin Schade against Crystal Palace are also included.
