Nick Woltemade has wasted little time adapting to life as a Newcastle United player.
The big frontman found the back of the net on his debut for his new club in a narrow 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
He also scored against Arsenal last weekend as the Magpies suffered a late collapse while Woltemade was elbowed by matchwinner Gabriel in what was a controversial moment of the action.
His record is two goals from his first five but the attacker’s target man style has lent itself well to the type of football Eddie Howe seems to want his team playing this season.
It comes after Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge branded Newcastle’s decision to spend £69million on Woltemade “idiocy”.
Bayern Munich branded Newcastle spend on Woltemade ‘idiocy’
The German said: “When this story with Woltemade and then the demands of Stuttgart came up, I, as well as [fellow Bayern Munich supervisory and executive board members] Uli Hoeneß, Herbert Hainer, Jan Dreesen, and Max Eberl, said, ‘Guys, we’re reaching figures that I no longer find acceptable.
‘We shouldn’t meet every demand to make someone happy, especially the financiers at Stuttgart.’
“I can only congratulate the people in Stuttgart for finding – let me use quotation marks here – ‘an idiot’ who paid that much money, because we certainly wouldn’t have done that in Munich.”
Of course this followed Woltemade reportedly rejecting a move to Bayern which could potentially be seen as sour grapes from Rummenigge and his cronies.
However, it also comes off the back of the player scoring goals for his new club, in a new league, in a different country.
Premier League record transfers who have struggled after move
All three elements of Woltemade’s start have shown that he can cut it in the Premier League which is certainly more than can be said for players who have cost more money than £69m.
Alexander Isak may have proven himself at Newcastle but he has just one goal from his first four games for Liverpool since his record-breaking move.
Florian Wirtz has taken time to adapt at Anfield since his switch from Germany which cost the Anfield outfit a whopping £110m.
Other big money names have struggled in England’s top flight including Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea, Antony at Manchester United and wantaway Blues star Wesley Fofana.
Woltemade has already scored for his club and has settled in to enjoy manager Howe’s man management at St James’ Park.
The likelihood is that the 23-year-old will do well on Tyneside and Munich may regret not splashing out on a player who scored 18 goals in 36 outings for VFB Stuttgart and was a proven Bundesliga hitman.
