Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was at it again last night (Sat., July 19, 2025) with UFC 318 from inside Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, La., which saw Max Holloway defeat Dustin Poirier via unanimous decision (see it here). In the co-main event, Paulo Costa defeated Roman Kopylov via unanimous decision after 15 minutes of Middleweight action.

Biggest Winner: Max Holloway
“Blessed” was finally able to get one back on Poirier after “The Diamond” defeated him two times prior. It was an entertaining scrap all around, and a great confidence booster for Holloway, who was coming off a devastating knockout loss at the hands of Ilia Topuria not too long ago. Now, the Hawaiian-born fighter has his sights set on a rematch against Topuria, this time at 155 pounds, where “El Matador” currently reigns supreme.

Runner (s) Up: Daniel Rodriguez and Patricio Pitbull
It wasn’t pretty, but Rodriguez secured one of the biggest wins of his UFC career after defeating Kevin Holland via unanimous decision on what a back-and-forth (and sometimes sloppy) affair. Still, it was a huge win for “D-Rod,” who has now won three straight and could be staring down the pipe of a spot in the Top 15 after eliminated the No. 13 ranked fighter in the division. Rodriguez has really turned it around for himself after a three-fight skid to winning his last three against Holland, Santiago Ponzinibbio and Alex Morono. As for Pitbull, he locked down his first win inside the Octagon after falling short in his debut, defeating Dan Ige after 15 minutes of back-and-forth action. The win was much-needed for the former Bellator MMA champion, who has lost three of his last four. Starting off his UFC career with two straight losses would have been disastrous for the longtime veteran, but the win gives him a new lease on his combat life.

Biggest Loser: Lukasz Brzeski
Marvin Vettori has now lost three straight and four of his last five after coming up short against Brendan Allen, but he saved himself a bit for at least winning a post-fight bonus for “Fight of the Night.” As for Brzeski, though, he also lost his third straight bout after he was submitted by Ryan Spann in the very first round. “The Bull” was submitted in all three losses and, to make matters worse, he has dropped six of his first seven fights inside the Octagon, which means he could be staring at a one-way ticket out of the promotion, even if it is thin at Heavyweight.
