According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Manchester City are considering signing Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz before the February 3 transfer deadline.
The Citizens are seeking a temporary replacement for Rodri, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after picking up a serious knee injury in September.
The defending champions would be looking to sign Luiz, who was on City’s books between 2017-19, on loan until the end of the campaign.
However, Juventus reportedly prefer a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy included.
The 26-year-old boasts Premier League experience, having made 175 appearances in the English top-flight during his stint at Aston Villa.
The Brazilian’s performances for Villa convinced Juventus to splash €50 million to acquire his services in the summer.
But he has failed to make a huge impact for the Serie A giants, with just three league starts to his name.
Active January window
Almost everyone expected Manchester City to be in the Premier League title race at the start of the season.
However, things have turned out very differently for the City fans this campaign, as their team is languishing in eighth place in the table ahead of Sunday’s trip to Ipswich Town, which is available to watch through Premier League live streams.
Pep Guardiola’s side have won just 10 of their 21 matches so far this term, losing six and drawing five in the process.
Guardiola admitted he regretted turning down the chance to reinforce his squad in the summer.
But the Spanish boss is not repeating the same mistake, as the Citizens have been very active in the 2025 January transfer window.
They are set to sign Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush after agreeing a transfer fee with Eintracht Frankfurt.
City are also attempting to hire the services of central defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, who are on the books of Lens and Palmeiras respectively.
Guardiola’s side retain an interest in Andrea Cambiaso, but a deal is unlikely to materialise with the Old Lady in the current transfer window.
