The Vijay Merchant Trophy 2024 is in full swing, and Karnataka met Jharkhand during the three-day fixture held at the DVR Ground in Mulapadu. Former India cricketer and head coach Rahul Dravid‘s younger son, Anvay, featured in the Playing XI for Karnataka. He did more than justice to his selection, scoring an unbeaten hundred during the second innings.
Batting patiently, for 153 deliveries, Anvay remained not out on 100, finishing his innings with 10 boundaries and a couple of over-the-rope hits. Not only him, but Karnataka’s top-order dominated heavily throughout the innings. Opener Arya Gowda entered the field with his partner and captain Dhruv Krishnan, and stayed until they stitched a 229-run stand in 71.4 overs.
Syaamantak Anirudh joined the skipper, but Krishnan departed four balls later, ending his 122-run knock, lavished with 14 fours and three sixes. Anirudh, though, didn’t let the pressure mount further as he was joined by Anvay at number 4. The duo too racked up a 167-run stand for the third wicket, however, Anirudh fell short of a well-deserved hundred and had to walk back for 76 off 137, as Ayush Khare of Jharkhand delivered the breakthrough with the ball.
