Delhi Capitals triumphed over Royal Challengers Bangalore in a riveting encounter, clinching a 25-run victory in match 7 of the Women’s Premier League 2024. The match unfolded at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where Bangalore, after winning the toss, opted to field first.

Delhi Capitals, taking the crease, exhibited a commendable batting display. The initial phase saw a steady accumulation of 28 runs in the opening five overs before the dismissal of captain Meg Lanning. Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey then formed a formidable alliance, amassing 82 runs for the second wicket. Shafali reached a half-century, followed by the departures of Jemimah Rodrigues and Capsey, who fell just shy of her fifty.

In the latter part of the innings, Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen played crucial roles, contributing 32 and 36 runs, respectively, in a brisk 16-ball innings each. Their impactful contributions, alongside Arundhati Reddy’s few lusty blows, propelled Delhi Capitals to a challenging total of 194. Nadine de Klerk and S Devine claimed two wickets each for Bangalore.

The Challengers, in pursuit of the target, enjoyed a strong start with openers Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine adding a commendable 77-run partnership for the first wicket. Despite Devine’s departure after scoring 23, Mandhana continued her exceptional performance, combining with Sabbhineni Meghana for an additional 35 runs. Mandhana’s brilliant 74 off 43 balls, featuring ten fours and three sixes, stood out as a highlight.

However, despite Mandhana’s stellar contribution, RCB faced challenges after her dismissal, concluding their chase at 169 and experiencing a 25-run defeat. For DC, Jess Jonassen was the pick of the bowler as she took three wickets while Marizanne Kapp and  Arundhati Reddy took two wickets each.

Now going forward, on March 2nd, Royal Challengers Bangalore are set to encounter Mumbai Indians at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. On the other hand, DC Women will be gearing up for their next match against Gujarat Giants on March 3rd at the same venue in Bangalore.
