Abbas Afridi made an impactful debut for Pakistan in the recent T20I series against New Zealand. He picked five wickets in three matches with 3/34 as his best figures which came on debut. The pacer will now represent Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024.
Abbas Afridi is the nephew of former Pakistani pacer and current fast-bowling coach Umar Gul. He made his List A debut for Habib Bank Limited during the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup. Following this, he made his first-class debut for the same team in the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in October 2018.
He also played for the Pakistan U-19 team in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he emerged as the leading wicket-taker for his team. Later, in October 2021, he was included in the Pakistan Shaheens squad for their tour of Sri Lanka.
He also joined the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League in 2019 in the emerging cricketer’s category. In PSL 2023, emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 23 dismissals, one more than his teammate Ihsanullah, while representing Multan Sultans.
Afridi also played for Montreal Tigers for the 2023 Global T20 Canada and picked a hat-trick against the Vancouver Knights.

Abbas Afridi moved from Karachi Kings to Multan Sultans in the PSL 7 draft and was retained by the franchise for the PSL 2024. He became the fifth bowler to claim a hat-trick in the PSL history on Saturday against Quetta Gladiators. Afridi’s wickets included Mohammad Nawaz, Umaid Asif, and Umar Akmal.
The right-arm pacer is known for bowling short of the length and possesses a potent slower ball. It has come in handy for the pacer, troubling the batters on numerous occasions during death overs.
