Pakistan’s director of cricket Mohammad Hafeez parts ways with PCB after unsuccessful tenure

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has bid farewell to the director of the men’s cricket team, Mohammad Hafeez, and expressed their gratitude for his contributions. Hafeez took up the role following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. However, tensions between Hafeez and the PCB have surfaced, leading to his departure.

Sources report that he wanted a meeting with the newly-appointed PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, to discuss the tour of Australia and New Zealand. However, he was unable to secure a meeting, indicating a strained relationship between Hafeez and the board’s leadership. The PCB’s reluctance to work with Hafeez has ultimately led to the decision to part ways.

PCB wished the former for his future endeavours and posted on their social media handle saying, 

During his tenure, concerns arose regarding Hafeez’s management style and his relationship with senior players. Reports also suggested there was dissatisfaction among players with Hafeez’s lengthy meetings and strict approach. Additionally, issues arose concerning the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players participating in various leagues.

Furthermore, Mohammad Hafeez’s operation under former PCB Chairman Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf raised concerns among board officials. PCB’s decision to move forward without Hafeez reflects a desire for change and a shift in leadership within the cricketing body.
