Cricket News: Best responses to Mohammad Kaif “best team on paper” tweets | Mohammad Kaif creates stir with his view on the ODI World Cup Final

Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif created quite the stir on social media following India’s defeat in the World Cup Final against Australia. Speaking to Star Sports, Kaif said “I can never accept that the best team has won the World Cup. The Indian team is the best on paper.”

The comments resulted in a widespread response, including from David Warner. The Australia opener, who had a strong World Cup campaign with 535 runs, tweeted, “I like MK [Mohammad Kaif], issue is it does not matter what is on paper. At the end of the day you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come.”

The tweet has received 4.7 million impressions.

Kaif then took to Twitter to double down on his view. “Facts: It was Australia’s day in final, they won, they are World Cup winners. More facts: India comprehensively won 10 games, they lost 11th, they had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament’s best team. Both facts, on paper and on field. Relax Australia.”

Best responses to views from Mohammad Kaif on the World Cup

Kaif’s tweet, which has been viewed nearly 4 million times as of November 24, has also resulted in widespread response. “On paper, strength is just a promise; on the field, it’s the grit in key moments that clinches victories,” tweeted Talk Before Wicket. Others took a more humorous approach, with The Skin Doctor tweeting “It’s high time for Kaif bhai to become the ICC president and introduce the ‘best team on paper award’ from next Cricket World Cup onwards.”

Here are some other responses following Australia’s sixth ODI World Cup title.

Cricket isn’t won on paper but on the pitch. Australia showed up when it counted, winning 9 straight to lift the World Cup.

On paper, strength is just a promise; on the field, it’s the grit in key moments that clinches victories. True champions adapt and overcome.

Australia lost the first two, bottom of the table won 9 on the bounce! Won against Afg when their chips were completely down & out. Read the conditions better on the finals day! Built pressure with their super fielding and killed the game in mid overs where India’s strength lies.…

Not too sure why Mohammad Kaif made such a statement, especially after India’s loss in the final.

All the top-tier events in sports (Olympics, FIFA / Rugby World Cup, Wimbledon etc.) have a simple thing in common – someone/ the team has to step up and win the knock-out games. https://t.co/yjqxM7g6HZ

More facts:
1) Australia were without Travis Head for both the games they lost.

2) Adam Zampa was unfit for first quarter of campaign because of his back and further due to injury to his face , which was clearly visible against ind and sa in Chennai and LKO

Thus in final both…

To be a champion, you don’t necessarily need to be the best. That’s how championships work.

There’s always a difference between the best and the champion. Being the best does not automatically mean being the champion.

That is why there are rankings and then there are…

Kaif spouting rubbish! We didn’t perform when it mattered. That’s the end of it. No trophies handed out for ‘moral’ victories. Aussies are deserved winners!

Final Hurrah matters in the sports. You compete to reach the final stages and what you have done previously becomes a history. What you do in the final contest matters.

— Ahmer Najeeb Satti (@AhmerNajeeb) November 23, 2023

Crying like a 8 y/o kid. Such an embarrassment @MohammadKaif

Fact – Aussies dominated throughout the match.
Except two batting powerplays of 20 overs, Aussies outplayed india in the rest 80 overs. A bitter truth.

Accept the truth and move on lad. https://t.co/ekaH5RBDpx

The way Australian players have been ridiculing @MohammadKaif is not in the spirit of the game IMHO. He did not belittle or criticize Australia. As he mentions, Indian team was better on paper walking into the finals. It was Aus day in the final like he said. But India was the… https://t.co/jbTnG2fTrA

This man has completely lost his mind. Accept it that it’s over snd move on rather than making a joke of yourself by telling all these childish things. #CWC23 https://t.co/WLa26lMjti

You can say as many things as you want to justify your opinion that India were the best team on paper; but the fact is that Australia are the World Champions! Deal with it! https://t.co/HiCTf0oOdx

— Robbie Thornton (@RobbieThornton) November 23, 2023

‘India played well’ is just placating. India played well in the rest of the tournament but in the finals team India did everything quite mediocre or below. Mediocre batting, average bowling, pathetic fielding. Aussies won with mediocre batting, good bowling and excellent fielding

India and Australia are currently doing battle once again, this time in the T20I format. India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series thanks to big efforts from Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Rinku Singh among others.
